Private Daily Ucagiz Village(Kale),Kekova(Sunken City),Simena tour

Ucagiz(Kale) In Lycian times, the village of Ucagiz(Kale)was known as Teimiussa and, apparently, the inscriptions show that the owners of these rock tombs were citizens of either Myra or Cyaneai.Ucagiz is a quaint little fishing town and the unspoiled fishing and farming village within the Kekova region is located amid a beautiful peninsula.

The old traditional streets are lined with old stone houses, and little restaurants and cafes selling traditional Turkish food, specialising in the local seafood that was caught at sea that morning.

There are also local ladies who selling their handmade goods in the village.Old village houses are interspersed with tall stone Lycian tombs over 2000 years old,and there are marble ruins of a Roman city”sunken city”still glisten beneath the chrystal clear waters of the Mediterranean.

Kekova(Sunken City) Kekova is not only known for its gorgeous turquoise sea but also its ancient and mysterious sunken city.Kekova is a large region on Turkey’s Mediterranean coastline that includes the island of the same name as well as the Kaleköy and Üçağız villages.Since its inclusion in the Turkish Ministry of Environment and Forest’s specially protected areas beginning in 1990,the region has become quite popular with visitors due to its stunning natural and cultural beauty. On the northern side of the island of Kekova, you’ll come across the underwater ruins of Dolchiste,an ancient Lycian settlement, which was partly overtaken by the sea due to an earthquake that occurred during the 2nd century.

Even though Dolchiste was rebuilt and regained new life during the Byzantine era,the threat of Arabs in the region caused its inhabitants to abandon their town. Although it is forbidden to swim in the wrecked ruins, it is a pretty good experience to take care of them and take photos and is only accessible by boat.

However,in Tersane Bay,visitors can swim and take a closer look at the ruins of an ancient Byzantine church, while Akvaryum Bay is also another perfect spot to take a dip in the clear waters.Apart from the beautiful sunken city in the iridescent turquoise waters,Kekova is also famous for its countless coves and bays as well as the Kaleköy village with its historic fortress. The waterfront restaurants adorned with flowers, the small houses with terracotta roofs, and narrow streets are also standouts in this idyllic village by the water. The castle is located on the ruins of another Lycian structure built by the Knights of Rhodes.

Simena is a popular Lycian site, situated upon one of the most attractive spots of the Turkish coast. Both Simena and Teimiussa have a large necropolis.Simena is an enjoyable place to visit for its great beauty and charm. It is a peaceful place of history, gorgeous turquoise sea and unspoilt nature. The city is a charming mix of ancient, medieval and modern history making it interesting as well as beautiful. In ancient times Simena was a small fishing village and was later an outpost of the Knights of Rhodes (formerly of St. John).

The ancient city of Simena was one of two parts-an island and a coastal part of the mainland. On the mainland the charming fishing village of Kaleköy(“castle village”)stands today, its buildings mingling with ancient and medieval structures. The top of the village is dominated by a well-preserved castle built by the Knights of Rhodes partially upon ancient Lycian foundations.Inside the castle is the smallest amphitheatre of Lycia. At the eastern end of the village is a Lycian necropolis with a cluster of some very nice sarcophagi overlooking the sea and surrounded by ancient olive trees.

Near the harbour of Kaleköy is another sarcophagus, popping up from the water.Across the bay, along the island are the half-submerged ruins of the residential part of Simena, caused by the downward shift of land by the terrible earthquakes of the 2nd century AD.Half of the houses are submerged and its staircases descend into the water.Foundations of buildings and the ancient harbor are also seen below the sea.
