Private Daily Patara Beach,Kalkan,Kaputas Beach,Kas(Antiphellos)tour

Patara Beach-Ancient City The beautiful, white fine sand of Patara beach and the turquoise sea dazzle under the sun.Legend has it that the sand has extraordinary healing powers.Patara beach is renowned for its very shallow waters and is often chosen by families with children for a vacation. If you want to swim in deep water, you will have to go far away from the beach.

The beach is unsheltered, open on all sides, which means that it is always windy with big waves crashing onto the shore, making it an unmissable destination for surfing fans.Patara Beach, stretching over 18 kilometers,is Turkey’s longest beach and together with the fact that there are also sea turtles laying eggs on the beach, the beach has become a special protected area.

Patara was the major naval trading port and one of the six principal cities of Lycians, located at the mouth of the Xanthos River. Patara’s oracle at the renowned temple of Apollo (not yet found) was said to rival that at Delphi the temple equaled the reputation of the famous temple on the island of Delos. It was believed that Apollo lived at Delos during the summer but spent his winters at Patara.Omens were interpreted in these two towns during the respective seasons.

A large bust of Apollo, discovered on the hill beyond the City Gate, indicates the existence of an Apollo Temple which has not been yet found.During the Roman period,Patara was the judicial seat of the Roman governor, and the city became the capital of both the Lycia and Pamphylia provinces at one time.Patara was frequently called “the chosen city” and “the metropolis of the Lycian nation.”Around 138 BC Patara had a population of about 20,000 and ranked among the top cities of Anatolia after Ephesus.

In Christian history Patara is famous for being a place of St.Paul’s missionary work at the end of his third missionary journey as he changed ships en route to Jerusalem.Patara was also the birthplace of St.Nicholas (260-280 AD),bishop of Myra and the future Santa Claus. In Byzantine times,Patara became a Titular see of Lycia and a suffragan of Myra.

Much of Patara remains undiscovered, buried in the shifting sand, including the famous Temple of Apollo. However, some very exciting excavations have been going on revealing many structures previously hidden by the dunes.

Kalkan This unique town is built around a charming harbour, full of Turkish wooden gulets and small craft, bordered with waterfront restaurants;behind the harbour and the beach is where the beautiful and historic old town area extends back from the sea.

Kalkan is now a thriving but still unspoilt resort with the bustling, historic old quarter being the heart of the town Traditional houses, famous old town restaurants, small boutiques and local shops with a flood balcony and winding streets come to life in the afternoon.

The former Greek Orthodox Church by Kalkan’s harbour has been converted into a mosque and is a fine example of Greek architecture in Kalkan but, at every turn, whitewashed and stone buildings with shuttered windows and timber balconies hint at Kalkan’s rich history.

Kaputas Beach is the perfect, possible stopping point between Kalkan and Kaş.A glance to the right reveals a breathtaking, idyllic Mediterranean scene down below. The water flowing from the bottom of the seashore is generally cool and turquoise.187 steps down the road to the beach is reached. There are no fixed amenities in Kaputaş Beach, except only vendors who set up small stands selling snacks and hiring out sun umbrellas during the day.

Kas is a seaside town on the western Mediterranean coast in Turkey. The modern town occupies the site of ancient Antiphellos, with still-visible ruins including a theatre. The 4th-century-BC.Lion Tomb, with 2 carved lion heads,is one of many Lycian rock tombs in the area. The Lycian Way, a marked trail, passes by the town.Like many towns in this area, there used to be a huge Greek population until 1923 when there was an exchange of citizens between Greece and Turkey.

Many of the whitewashed houses in Kaş are surrounded with pink bougainvillea flowers that immediately make you notice the influence of Greek architecture in some of the older properties, typically the wooden shutters, narrow streets and large terraces for enjoying the mid-day sun.

Antiphellos Antiphellos was a small settlement and the port for Phellos, the much larger Lycian town further north in the hills. Its small Hellenistic theater 500m west of the main square, could seat 4000 spectators and is in very good condition. The Roman-era road on the east of the main square to reach the King’s Tomb,a superb example of a 4th-century BC Lycian sarcophagus. It’s mounted on a high base and has two lion heads on the lid.
